Here we go again

The story your are about to hear is a sad one, but do not despair and do not mourn this day as this is not how the gallant nine men of Lansdown wish to be remembered, also the movie rights are going to net them a fortune.

Picture the scene Roukes drift 1879 (aka Hereford 2010), hundreds and thousands of Herefords finest warriors lined up sharpening their instruments of war and licking their lips and foreheads with anticipation, sure of the easiest victory in their campaign.
Now normally most teams would fold tents and run to the hills, but not us we had goal that must be defended and we were not about to hand it over easily.

Battle commenced and the hordes attacked, their style uncouth and brutish but they had numbers, numbers and numbers. Wave after wave flowed against the defensive walls but the well drilled Lansdown forces held firm. Corporal Bickell, Sgt Paddock and Private Hyndman manning the wall and doing their best, any rouge attackers that made it through were swiftly snuffed by Captian Sidey, the boss was imperious.

To quell the onslaught the battalion attacked with the Special Forces, Lt Clarke, Private Hicks, Trooper White and the Cpl Bickell(multitasking), sniping and scything, causing all sorts of mischief what a sight, real men in battle dress showing numbers mean little when quality abounds.

The half followed a pattern huge attacks and precision counters, only once did numbers count and they gave us a glancing blow before half time.

Every battle has a lull.

Second half, the Hun regrouped and launched multiple attacks, Captian Sidey showed the way with the best performance the old dog has had in a while but they kept sneaking in pushing us back and wounding us. Many Lansdown troops got injured but showed their colours and fought on, Victoria crosses all round.

Now, just so you know it was not cowardice or a lack of will to fight, but private Hyndman had a few minutes off the pitch, to this day it is still one of those mysteries, but he did come back, some would say about flipping time and he wasn’t missed, me, I say his return broke the spine of their attack, they may have scored a couple more after his return but that is a minor detail.

One moment of glory, Corporal Moule breached their lines with a moment of brilliance just to show them even though they might have won the battle, we were not beaten

At the end the enemies leaders called off their attack, respect has been given, and no more blood shall be spent on this day

The score an irrelevant 7-1

Niall Hyndman on 14/02/2010
