Welcome to Lansdown Junior Hockey Club in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
Whether you would like to play hockey for the first time, been playing a bit at school or playing weekly, you'd be very welcome to join the club - just come along to training and try us out or you can send us an email at
Lansdown Juniors train on a Tuesday night at Bourneside School in Cheltenham. Click the Directions link on the menu above to see where we are, or get driving instructions from your house.
We try to make sure that you are playing hockey with people of a similar age and ability so split the Junior hockey training session into two slots:
Junior hockey at Lansdown Hockey Club in Cheltenham is aimed at children aged 8 -16.
We do occasionally accept children younger than 8 if you have hockey playing parents and have been playing hockey / around hockey for a while already, but this is discretionary.
If you are approaching the upper age limit and play hockey regularly in a Badgers or Vixens team, and feel confident enough to try, you may be invited to stay on to adult hockey training immedately after the Junior hockey session finishes. We want you to be challenged by the hockey we provide, but we don't want you to feel out of your depth or intimidated, so only agree if you are happy to.
From the age of 11, you will be able to get involved in regular Badgers or Vixens games if you wish to.
Badgers (for boys) and Vixens (for girls) is the bridge from Junior Hockey to Adult hockey. As usual there are 11 per team, but each team compromises up to 3 adults and the rest are between the ages of 11 and 16.
Adults playing on the teams are not allowed to take shots on goal and are encouraged to do on the pitch coaching, ensure all players are involved and provide positive criticism.
Matches take place on a Saturday for the boys Badgers and Sundays for girls Vixens.
There are two people to look our for at junior hockey training:
Both Kelly and Phil are level 2 coaches and have plenty of experience coaching county junior hockey teams and satellite county hockey.
All coaches are Criminal Record Board (CRB) checked. You can see our child protection policy and child welfare documents below.
Lansdown Hockey Club is working towards the Clubs First award. Clubs that recieve the award are recognised nationally for providng a Safe, Effective and Child Friendly hockey environment.
As part of this, we have a child protection policy and child welfare policy that you may wish to read:
If you would like to contact us about these matters, please send an email to Nicola Beattie at welfare@lansdownhockey.co.uk
