Vixens v Dursley

In very cold and wet conditions the Lansdown Vixens showed their true grit and determination in their match against Dursley. With 10 girls playing and only one adult on the pitch they worked well as a team taking the game to Dursley. Some well worked moves saw the reward of the first goal with Claire McGrath tapping the ball into the back of the net. Dursley were rattled as they were yet to be beaten this season and they fought back hard to bring it back to a draw. At the beginning of the second half Lansdown had the majority of play in Dursley’s defensive half, rewarded with a short corner Holly Wright cleanly struck the ball to sink Lansdown’s second goal. Dursley kept pushing but with some amazing saves from Keeper Ben Holdaway were unsuccessful in their attempts. In the last 5 minutes Lansdown gained another short corner and with a great injection from Claire Molliver, Holly Wright slipped the ball left to Claire McGrath who slotted the ball neatly into the goal. A great match with an even better result. Thanks go to all of the team for playing so well, Captian Kim Stevens for organising the team and Negs Luckman (umpiring), Michelle Arms (coaching) and Sara Thompson (playing) for the adult assistance on the day.

Sundays Match CANCELLED

Sundays match against Cirencester has been CANCELLED.

Ciren can't field a team due to sickness and holidays and have cancelled our match this weekend.

Lansdown Vixens (1) Cheltenham Vixens (6)

Lansdown vixens faced their toughest game of the season against local rivals Cheltenham. The vixen’s team had enjoyed a run of success, but the match against Cheltenham was a harder contest than those they had previously faced.

Both teams started strongly and Lansdown were able to create some great runs early on, through some excellent teamwork from Sophie Tagg, Claire McGrath and Claire Moliver. Despite these early chances, Lansdown could not find the goal and sent many balls wide. The game was extremely fast paced and in the first half, some great attacking play by Cheltenham saw them take a 2-0 lead at half time.

The Lansdown vixens spent much of the second half in their own D, defending relentless attacks from Cheltenham. During this time defender and man of the match, Lucy Scarrott, stood out from the rest and stopped Cheltenham from breaking through and scoring with some superb defensive play, she even cleared a few off the goal line! The girls continued to fight hard and a quick break from the midfields and forwards saw Holly Wright slot the ball cleanly into Cheltenham’s goal. Cheltenham were however able to score another 4 in the second half. This was partly due to the fact that neither the Lansdown or Cheltenham side were able to field a goal keeper and Lansdown certainly missed the last line of defence on this occasion.

Some great lessons were learnt through the match, with many players new to the vixens set up and the girls remain confident going into next week’s fixture against Cirencester.

Vixens - Lansdown (3) v’s Stroud (0) 11/10/09

Lansdown fielded an experienced Vixens side who dominated from the outset. Claire McGrath sent an accurate pass into the D for Claire Moliver to slot in from close range. Stroud continued to absorb pressure from Lansdown throughout the first half but managed to avoid conceding further goals despite several attempts from McGrath and Moliver. Stroud eventually worked their way into the Lansdown end but were denied a goal by keeper Rachael Bullingham on her Vixens debut.

In the second half Sophie Tagg and Kim Stevens demonstrated fine stick skills to keep the pressure on Stroud. Good distribution from Molliver resulted in a superb goal by McGrath. McGrath was on form in attack and soon scored again, this time following a pass from Emily Gibbons, bringing the final score to Lansdown 3 – Stroud 0.
