How did the U13 Girls Tournament go ........???
Girls U13 Tournament – Sunday 28 February
Squad: Emma Charlesworth, Laura Field, Megan Hooper, Izzy Paterson, Thea Griffiths, Scarlett Kearney, Sophie Collyer, April Symes, Holly Shaw.
The team started their afternoon against Cirencester 1 playing some great hockey and scored an early goal from a very narrow angle just inside the D. The game was almost in the bag, but in the final minute a corner was awarded against us and a well taken shot from the top of the circle ended up in the back of our net, giving us a 1-1 draw. Next we met Yate and put the pressure on again. There was some great team work throughout the game which was rewarded with a goal from Scarlett, giving us a 1-0 win. Our next two games were against Chelt Coyotes and East Glos 1. In both games the girls worked hard, but were starting to look tired and lost a little focus. Both teams managed to get attacking players through our defence regularly giving our new goalkeeper Emma a lot of work to do. Both games ended 2-0, but the scoreline could have been higher without the many fantastic saves from Emma. Going into the last game against Chelt 1 it was time to dig deep, be positive and put the other games behind us. This is exactly what the squad did, with all nine players rotating and working really well for each other. Unfortunately, in the closing minutes of the game Cheltenham scored and although Lansdown got awarded a corner right on time they could not convert it to give them the draw.
All girls worked hard with Scarlett doing a great job up front, supported by Megan, with April working tirelessly in midfield with Holly, Sophie and Izzy, Laura dominating in defence putting in some strong and crucial tackles, supported by Thea and last, but by no means least our player of the tournament – Emma in goal! Well done girls.
Special thanks to Tristan Murfitt who joined the girls for the afternoon as the team umpire.

Lansdown boys U13’s gave a good account of themselves at the monthly tournament today. Whilst results do not fully reflect how well the team played it was great to see how much individuals have improved and are trying skills learnt at training in match play. The first match against Yate/Lansdown saw us have the majority of play with Chris Tarling & Ollie Mosley linking well to set Dan & Sam free up front but we squandered numerous scoring opportunities when shooting instead of passing to create an easier scoring chance. Unfortunately for us we lent Yate Max Ellis & Matt Holdaway who showed exactly how it should be done by setting each other up for 2 goals apiece. When we did finally click we scored with a good passing move finished off by Sam P. We then upped our play against Chelt Leopards with Max Ellis & Chris Tarling working tirelessly in midfield and Chris scoring 2 goals with powerful strikes from open play. Cheltenham scored three goals to take the lead as we let our marking slip and held off from some tackles. However Ollie Mosley saved the game in the last few seconds following up a rebound to score from close range. We continued to perform well beating Marlborough 2 – 1 thanks to Daniel Letherbarrow & Sam Privett working well up front and both scoring . Harry Godwin & Rory Murfitt put in some strong tackles & great clearances and Ben Holdaway was only beaten by a deflected shot. We then dominated Chel t Cougars but found we were up against an inspired keeper with some great shots well saved. However Sam found the way to beat him by winding up from 5 metres out and topping the ball to bobble through the keepers leg. Unfortunately we switched off chasing back and tackling allowing them to equalise on the counter attack. Finally we finished with a 3 – 1 defeat against Chelt Panthers who were very strong and played well. The game was in the balance for a long time thanks to some great saves by Ben Holdaway and a well taken goal by Sam Privett on a quick counter attack. Harry Godwin also put in a great amount of defensive work to keep the scoreline down. We were only beaten by some top drawer team goals where the ball was passed around intricately to score giving Ben no chance.

A very good set of results in todays friendly tournament - unbeaten!
We avoided our usual slow start and won our first game against Swindon through a well taken goal by Sam Privett on his U13 debut. A hard fought 1-1 draw followed against Cirencester (Dan Letherbarrow), with great defending from Harry Godwin, Max Ellis and Ben Holdaway. We then stepped up our play against Cheltenham with Dan again finding the target to take the game 1-0. Here it was the midfield of Jamie Harper and Chris Tarling who held it together. Next came a 5-0 win against a young Lydney side, with Dan getting a hat-trick and goals from Max and Jamie. With confidence high we finished off in style with a 3-0 win over the Cirencester 1 team - Sam, Jamie and Chris sharing the honours. There was some great free-flowing attacking play - only the Ciren keeper making some stunning saves to keep the scoreline down.
Very impressed with the teamwork today. With no subs, the whole team worked tirelessly. It was also great to see them using the skills we have been practising in training, especially the roll-outs and v-drags to get past the oponents. Well done to everyone and enjoy the Christmas break!
