Girls U12 Club Championship – Sunday 28 March
This was the final tournament of the season’s calendar for our girls. Unfortunately, some of the regular players were unavailable, however we had 7 willing and enthusiastic girls, including Kelsi our new player who was experiencing her first tournament for Lansdown.
The first match of the afternoon was against Lydney, who were the final winners of the tournament. This was a really tough game which we lost 8-0. The second match was against Cheltenham Coyotes. The girls worked really hard in this game but were playing against an older side, and we were struggling to put good passes together. Elisha was injured just after half time, but with no reserves stayed on and tried to defend the continual attacks from Cheltenham. However, we were heading in the right direction losing this game only 4-0. Hungry for a goal we went into the final game in our group against Cirencester. The girls started to put better passes together, defended well and Ellen put in some fantastic saves. Then with great cheers from the supporters we scored our first goal – well done Kelsi! The final score was 3-1. This put us in 4th place in our group so we then played Stroud who were 4th in the other group. The Lansdown girls were tired but by half time were winning 1-0. They dominated the second half with Elisha and Ellie P doing a great job in defence. Kelsi and Izzy battled hard in midfield winning many tackles and putting some great passes through to the attack. Madie and Ellie L put some lovely shots on target and we were rewarded with another 2 goals in the second half. Final score was 3-0 (Madie -1, Ellie L – 2). A super way to end the day, giving the girls 7th place overall. Everyone received a certificate for taking part, but I think it was the sweets that the girls enjoyed the most!
Squad: Elisha Privett (Captain), Ellie Pearson, Kelsi Lewis, Madie Jenkins, Ellie Lyburn, Izzy Montgomery, Ellen Symington (GK).
Thanks to Tristan Murfitt who was our umpire for the afternoon .

A great effort today by a young side 6 of our players eligible to play next year! We started strongly against eventual winners Wotton, but conceded two well taken goals which gave Matt no chance. They had one very skilful player whom we found difficult to contain. Sam P, Dillon & Will linked well and created some good attacking opportunities but we were unable to find a finish. Despite the loss the next game was a cracker with great praise to the boys for a battling performance to come from behind to win. We really took the game to Bristol & West with Sam P driving towards goal, on every opportunity & with Will, Dillon & Hugo linking well, we looked the better side, forcing several short corners. Unfortunately we were caught out on the counter attack as our defenders pushed up too far allowing unmarked players behind to leave one on ones against Matt, for both their goals. Sam Privett equalised first with a powerful shot and Dillon equalised second with a superb reverse stick shot from the edge of the D. The winner was another good strike from Sam following a strong run beating several players. Our third group game against Cheltenham, whose confidence was up having just scored 10, saw more battling play and despite the scoreline, a 3-0 defeat, much better defending. Cameron cleared our lines well with some powerful hits and Joe & Christy marked & tackled strongly. Matt made several excellent saves and was only undone by great strikes in the corners. Our 5/6th play off v Gloucester was an exciting finale with a great second half fight back which saw us narrowly fail to snatch a draw despite our best team play of the day. Will & Sam Tilley clicked going forward and Sam swept the ball past the keeper for a well taken goal following a good run & pass from Will. Will scored himself with a great run & shot in the far corner & just failed to repeat this in the final minutes with the ball just missing the far post. Joe, Christy & Hugo also played their best hockey of the day to make it a really good finish to the tournament despite the loss. It was great to see how much our players have improved this season and in all our matches today we gave the opposition a really tough match – Well done boys and thanks for representing the Club so well!
Team -Matt Holdaway, Sam Privett, Sam Tilley, Will Tucker, Cameron Cox, Joe Hughes, Christy Rutland, Hugo Hansen & Dillon Clarke.

Another good Sunday for the U11 boys - unbeaten today! Started off with a good 2-1 win over Marlborough with goals from Sam T and Sam P. (ok, they didn't have a keeper for part of the game) with some great team play especially building up to the goals. Then a fantastic game against Wootton-u-Edge throughout the whole team. With some great goalkeeping from Matt, Cameron and Aarnav working hard in the midfield - then some quite excellent interplay between Will, Sam T and Sam H (each scoring a really good goal) to go 3-0 up. We then let them back in again with a couple of goals, but it ended 3-2. Then followed a 0-0 against a second Wootton team - a very tight game with Jeremy and Joe getting in some good tackles, and Matt keeping a clean sheet (with the help of the post). A 0-0 game with Stroud will be glossed over as we were asleep for most of it. We woke up for the last game with a 2-0 win over Airthrie - Sam P with both goals, though Will deserves most of the credit for the second one with a great run into the D, beating the keeper only for Sam to poach it over the line :) (still, good following up SP)
Team: Matt Holdaway, Joe Hughes, Cameron Cox, Jeremy Fox, Aarnav Nair, Will Tucker (1.5), Sam Tilley (2), Sam Privett (3.5)
Star player: Will Tucker (hope your knee has recovered)

Sunshine at last! Another good set of results resulting from good teamwork. We just tend to let in goals when we get carried away attacking and get caught out on the break!
We started off with a 1-0 win over Cheltenham U10, with Sam T scoring from his usual good positioning at centre forward, and Jeremy getting in some great tackles in defence (as he did in all the games). We were then unlucky to lose 1-0 to a strong Gloucester side, whose keeper denied us on several occasions. A good 1-1 draw against Cheltenham U11 followed, with Matt making several key saves and Sam P equalizing with a powerful shot. Ollie Harper (having stepped up from the U10) did a great marking job. A 1-1 draw against Cirencester was a bit disappointing - despite a lot of possession and a good goal from Sam P, Cirencester equalised in the last minute, despite Matts heroic diving. We saved our best hockey till last, winning 2-0 against a well organised Aithrie team. Joe, Hugo and Ollie controlled the midfield, Aarnav and Christie really got their marking sorted out and made some great tackles. Sam P scored from a top-of-the D shot, and Sam T put in an excellent deflection of Sam Ps cross.
We took advantage of a spare pitch to have a short game against the Lansdown U10. The older team won 3-0 (Jeremy, Sam T and Sam P), but given the age gap (most of the U10 are U9!) I thought the performance of the younger team was very impressive.
We are seeing improvements in the team each time they play - both in individual skills and teamwork. Well done everyone.

The squad was: (GK) - Izzy Montgomery, Defenders - Elisha Privett, Ellie Pearson, Midfielders - Emma Winder, Kiana McDonald, Izzy McGregor, Forwards - Maddie Jenkins, Ellie Lyburn, Liddie McGregor.
Once again the team shone throughout the day showing excellent temperament, team spirit and good humour.
We started off slowly drawing our first two games 0-0 versus Cheltenham and 1-1 (Maddie) versus Cirencester Reds. In both these games we can feel a little unlucky to not to have gone on to win at least one game.
This all changed when we played a young East Glos 2 team which we won 7 (yes SEVEN)-0 (Maddie 5, Kiana 1, Izzy McG 1). East Glos were slow and Lansdown pounced on every opportunity to present wave after wave of attacking play. Maddie revealed her true goal poaching colours and Kiana and Izzy McG short corner routine was excellent.
The girls had to play immediately after and understandably were tired and only managed a 0-0 draw with Cheltenham U10's. In the last game, feeling more fatigued, we were unlucky to lose 0-1 to Gloucester. Once again in both games we were unlucky particularily in the Gloucester game where Kiana and Maddie had a number of fierce strikes saved by a good goalkeeping display.
In writing this report I have mentioned a great deal about our attack, but their strong display was down to a solid midfield and defense.
Izzy M was our brilliant but under utilised keeper who kept her concentration throughout and produce good saves when called upon. Elisha and Ellie P played well at the back. Emma was our, nearly, tireless work horse who, all day, broke down the oppositions' moves to create our attacking opportunities. Liddie was invaluable rotating play with our midfield and attack. Kiana, Izzy McG and Maddie were excellent in providing attacking combinations, as mentioned earlier. And last but by no means least Ellie L showed true attacking menace.
The Girls and I were very grateful for Suzie providing excellent coaching advice, whilst Sally was absent trialling for England U60's!
Well done girls, with so many good performances, it is very difficult to choose a player of the tournament, Izzy McG, Kiana were close, Emma was a strong second but with 6 goals, 5 in one match our player of the tournament goes to Maddie.
