Who is going to coach me?

We're very lucky at Lansdown Hockey Club in Cheltenham - we have some highly qualified and experienced hockey coaches at the club. With the new hockey rules introduced for 2009 / 2010, having good coaching is crutial to the performance of a team.

Ladies Hockey Coach - Carolyn Rolleston

Carolyn Rolleston is an experienced level 3 coach for Lansdown LadiesCarolyn is a legend! Not only was she a well respected sweeper during her time as a hockey player in the West Premier League, but she is also one of the most experienced level 3 hockey coaches in the country.

Carolyn (a full time sports teacher at Katherine Lady Berkley school in Wotton-under-Edge) devotes her time on a Saturday during league games to coaching the Ladies 1XI and travelling around the South West of England to our away games. Time permitting, she also attends as many of the 2XI and 3XI games during the season as possible.

Carolyn has spent many years as a County and West of England regional coach for various girls age groups and has lead the Ladies 1XI to the top spot of the West Premier 1 league and through to National League play offs twice in her 10 year reign with the club - the most recent of which was the 2007/08 season.

Carolyn's coaching style is relaxed. Never one to raise her voice (we sometimes wonder how she manages that during frustrating games!) she helps players of all levels in the club to improve their skills and gain confidence.

Mens Hockey Coach - Matt Fairburn

Matt Fairburn - level 2 coach for Lansdown MenLansdown Men are looking forward to the 2009/2010 season and the arrival of new coach, Matt Fairburn.

Matt is a well known to us as a player locally having played for Gloucester City 1XI and Gloucestershire county for many years, but has gone on to play for England U21's (including taking part in the Junior World Cup) and Guildford Hockey Club at the highest level in the Slazenger England Hockey League.

Matt is not only a talented hockey player, but now has some impressive coaching experience - leading Guildford Ladies 1XI to promotion and Gloucestershire County U15's as runner up in the West Regional Tournament.

Matt now works at Wycliffe College in Stroud where he is Head of Hockey coaching and close to completing his level 2 coaching award.

Woodworm HockeyMatt and his business partner, Ben Dudley are also bringing the relaunch of Woodworm hockey to Gloucestershire. Exciting times are ahead for both Matt and Lansdown Hockey Club
